The Standing Committee on Water and Environment of the Parliament has commended the Government for the progress made in the implementation of the Same-Mwanga-Korogwe water project, being implemented in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region, worth 406 billion shillings.
The commendations were given after the committee conducted a visit to review the progress of the project and was satisfied with its implementation so far. The Committee stated that the project is important in improving access to clean and safe water for the people of the relevant areas.
The Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Pius Yanda, has commended the Government for the large investment, noting that the project will contribute to improving social services as well as promoting economic activities in the districts of Same, Mwanga and Korogwe.
In addition, he has emphasized the importance of effective management of the implementation of the project to ensure its timely completion and providing the intended benefits to the people.
For his part, presenting the project report on behalf of the Minister for Water, the Deputy Minister for Water, Hon. Kundo Andrea Mathew (MP), said that the project is expected to benefit more than 45.6 million citizens by 2038. He explained that the project is part of the Government's strategy to expand clean and safe water services to urban and rural citizens.
